New Adult Study on Hymns of Advent

Advent is a challenging time in the church calendar. Cultural forces pull us ever earlier and with greater force toward all things Christmas starting in November each year. Furthermore, the Advent season is rather short, giving us only four Sundays to pack in so many strains of our faith. And the sometimes hectic, busy cultural season can obscure our appreciation of Advent as we shop, attend gatherings, go to concerts, bake, and prepare for festivities. One consequence of this is that we tend to miss some of the rich, stellar hymns of  Advent, many old and many new.

Consider joining Dr. Nathan Birkholz for a fall study leading up to the season of Advent. We will examine several well known and lesser known hymn texts and their accompanying tunes and alternate melodies, as we hope to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the rich hymnody that blesses our faith during the month of December. Classes will be held online via Zoom on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. Please email Dr. Nathan Birkholz for details at: nbirkholz@felc.com.
