FAQs- Frequently Asked Questions:

When should we register? Now.  We have only 40 spots and they will fill up quickly.

How is this tour different than other ones advertised by churches? This trip includes all the regular Holy Land sites most tours take in, but… begins in Istanbul, Turkey to visit the Hippodrome Sq., Hagia Sophia Church, Blue Mosque and more.  In Israel, you will visit Masada, the Dead Sea listed as one of the 10 world sites to see affected by climate change, Dan to see the site of the Canaanite gate & walls of Abraham times… and more. You will have the option of extending your tour to Petra in Jordan known as the Rose City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, listed as one of the 7 wonders of the world and featured in the Indiana Jones-Last Crusade movie.

How appropriate is this tour for children? Dr. Barb Tengesdal is a child development expert with experience at these sites.  The Tengesdal family traveled this tour with their own children ages 9 & 12.  It was highly impactful and gave them experiences that the children later referenced in school work and research papers. The youngest suggested age is 8-9 years of age.  You can contact Barb to talk over thoughts and concerns.

How strenuous is the traveling?  Air-conditioned bus travel will take us each day to sites around the countries.  Walking is required, but there is always a blend of standing and looking… or hiking around to deeper experience the sites. There will be options to wander on your own or relax on a bench.  Uneven walking is part of visits at historical sites.  The buses always have water available and restrooms are accessible.

Do you have to be a member of First English Lutheran Church or a Lutheran?  No! Friends and family from around the country are encouraged to come together and experience this amazing travel opportunity.  The Holy Land is a gift to the entire world, and particularly to the Islam, Judaism and Christian faiths. We have registrations from CA, WA, TX, ND, WI… don’t hesitate to join the group. If you wish, Jerusalem Tours will work with you to arrange travel to our starting point in Chicago.
