Private Music Lessons

About

Private piano lessons give the gift of music to young people who would otherwise not have the opportunity. The School provides them with a piano, the lessons, and all materials. Funding for this program is provided by the generosity of music lovers in the community.

Students for this program are nominated by music teachers in the public schools, and student selections are made by The School.

Lessons are provided twice weekly to begin; they transition to weekly as the student demonstrates progress and good practice habits between lessons.

Instruction is provided by Dr. Nathan Birkholz, who has been teaching piano for eighteen years to students of all ages and abilities including those with disabilities - Tourette syndrome, autism, and Down syndrome.

He holds degrees from Northern Illinois University (B.M.), Indiana University (M.M.), and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (D.M.A.) and has served on the piano faculty at UIUC and Ripon College. He currently serves as a staff pianist at Lawrence University, music director at First English Lutheran Church, and also teaches independently.
