An Awesome Week with Even More to Come! by Sally Eronson
June 13, 2014

Although the June 9 week has been bustling with activity, the interns minds and hearts have been revolving around the crown event… Day Camp! The four days of action-packed fun began on Monday with a focus on outreach in which we based our “Helping Hand” craft and Bible time from Luke and its Parable of the Good Samaritan. Study and learning were the highlight of Tuesday as our “Handprint Sheep” and bookmarks reminded us of Mary and Martha. Skits consisting of the elephants Matilda and Margaret at the circus allowed the Day Campers to appreciate the story of growth and have a good chuckle at the comically embarrassing intern display. And, of course, the afternoon trip to the Children’s Farm was the day’s highlight for the kiddos. Wednesday followed with a focus on prayer and Jonah and the Whale. Although the drizzly weather threatened our fun, nothing seemed to damper the spirits of those campers. The squirting of water guns, the dumping of water on kids during a game of Drip, Drip, DROP, and the wiggles during worship songs kept energy high and laughter constant. But the bittersweet day came on Wacky Thursday, the last day of Day Camp. Covered in apparel ranging from a bunny, a banana, an M & M, Batman, and a shocking amount more, we were led into the day of friendship. After enjoying a brilliantly performed rendition of Zaccheaus, the kids went from camper to camper writing down a kind word or compliment on their “Friends High-Fives”. Although the week had to come to an end, it only felt right to compete our time together with the Banana Song and a final prayer for the times had, bonds created, and the hope that we’ll all come together again soon.

Meanwhile, Parker Baerenwald’s Ballroom Dancing Class was a hit Tuesday night. Although the evening of June 10 was the  take off of his class, about eight couples came for the introduction to the Waltz and the Foxtrot. Open to anyone who’s willing to get out their dancing shoes (athletic shoes in the gym though!), Parker expects to see you all on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. in the North Site gymnasium. And don’t worry if you’ve missed classes as there are new dances every week. Swing dancing will be the highlight of the June 17 class so come join!

Here’s a quick reminder to what we’ve got coming up at First English. KidsCLUB begins next week for grades K-5. Hosted at Zion Lutheran Church, weekly activities of fun from Tuesday through Thursday will take place starting June 17- July 31 from 11:30 a.m - 3 p.m. Come for crafts, games, skits, songs, snacks, Veggie tales… We’d love to have you.

Attention High Schoolers: Would you like to hang out and connect with some cool interns over an incredible beverage and real talk? Coffee and Conversation begins June 17 from 4 p.m. - 5 p.m. at Harmony Café. And if you happen to have a great time, follow it up with Game Night from 5:30 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the Downtown Site in the Youth Room. We’ll provide snacks, games, friends… the works.

Are you feeling in need of time to connect with God? Billy Griggs is beginning his meditation class for anyone and everyone starting this Sunday, June 15 at 7 p.m. in the Lounge at the Downtown Site. This 30 to 45 minute segment in your day will be a time of relaxation and deep, spiritual growth in God and yourself.

Join the interns for gardening from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. on Monday mornings starting June 16 at the Downtown Site. As progress is made on the inspiring Seeds of Grace garden, there’s still much to be done! Feel free to lend a hand if you want to reveal your green thumb.

Have an amazing week everyone and take a moment to send up a prayer for our High Schoolers as they embark on their mission trip to St. Louis, Missouri on Sunday, June 15! May God have his hand on their spiritual journey.

Whatever you ask in My Name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in My Name, I will do it. - John 14:13-14
