Mission Trip Update #2-Missions in Missouri: An Arch of Glory
June 17, 2014

Talk about full schedules! Here in St. Louis, these high schoolers are truly being tested on their faith, their willingness to serve, and their ability to function at 6:45 a.m. Yet each and every one of them seems to be excelling! As we split off into our service groups for the day, excitement was high and energy was certainly flowing. For 6 hours, 6 teams accomplished various service tasks including playing with youths, assisting the elderly, sorting secondhand clothing, preparing meals and delivering, and much more. These may seem like general service tasks, but to us who we're able to serve, they became so much more. Being able to converse with amazing, spirited souls as well as the broken and hurting made these responsibilities real and intensified their meaning for us. Those with task-oriented jobs kept in mind the joy they will bring to another person even if they may not personally meet. They served humbly and with purpose. Although the service day ended with exhausted kids and adults alike, it was clear that growth and love were the products of today's work.

After immensely enjoying the designated shower time, dinner was served and a plethora of stories of were passed from person to person until we could all nearly paint a picture of each groups activities. But more was yet to come! The St Louis Arch awaited us in all of it's glory as the sun dipped low in the sky. It's amazing how small one can feel looking up at such monument. And as some of us discussed, it's also amazing how God's power can wash over you as you look down from the very top over all of St Louis drenched in  golden afternoon light.
