About This Blog...
Hi! My name is Olivia Newhouse and I am an intern this summer at First English Lutheran Church. This is a blog that will be a behind the scenes account of all the things that happen at First English in the summer. I am excited to provide another outlet of our continuous faith journey.

Outside the Comfort Zone
July 1, 2019

This week has been very successful. We started the week with our usual intern meeting which was productive. We spent time going over new events and started planning Christmas in July camp. For lunch, on Monday I went to Buffalo Wild Wings with Kent and Carmen. It was a relaxed day. We also had Young Adult Fellowship where we discussed how our faith has changed or related to other beliefs. It was an interesting conversation and lead to some deep insights. This time set aside just for us to sit and spend time together is really important and helps us to stay grounded among our busy schedules.

On Tuesday I started the day by attending the staff meeting which brought up important events going on in the near future. After the meeting, I went Ice Skating at the Appleton Ice Center in Memorial Park. We had 2 middle school students show up and had a good time spending time together, even if it was cold. I ended the day at FVL homes playing Mexican Train. It was a nice way to end the day and a nice way to continue the relationships I have built so far in attending FVL Homes.

Wednesday, we started the day at 11 because we had worship that night. In the morning I worked on office work and planning for Kids Life. Before the service, I went home to get ready and practice my sermon as it was my turn to speak that week. I was nervous so I liked the extra time to practice. That night at worship I successfully gave my message. I am glad that I pushed myself to step outside my comfort zone.

Thursday was my last day of the week because I had vacation on Friday. As a group, we attend Eagle Point in the morning where we played board games with the residents. I lost at Scrabble twice but had a good time. That afternoon, Kent, Carmen and I ended the day at Echoes where we sorted and tagged clothes. All the wonderful ladies who are run Echoes are so nice and dedicated to their work there.

I am very thankful for all the relationships that I have made so far this summer. I hope to continue this growth as I continue to push myself outside my comfort zone and try new things. I am so happy to be here this summer.

Short week next week! Have a Happy 4th of July.

I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
