About This Blog...
Hi! My name is Olivia Newhouse and I am an intern this summer at First English Lutheran Church. This is a blog that will be a behind the scenes account of all the things that happen at First English in the summer. I am excited to provide another outlet of our continuous faith journey.

This week has been a crazy one but was really fun. On Monday we started the day with our Intern meeting where we went over the events of the week. I really like this time on Monday mornings as it is time set aside where I can be with just the other interns and Heidi. That afternoon Kent, Abby and I went to Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch with some high schoolers. It was a fun time to catch up with some kids and find out what is going on in their lives. On Monday night we also had our first Young Adult Fellowship. I liked that we were able to start this as it will become a regular part of my summer.

Tuesday was a little more relaxed than Monday. In the morning I spent time creating parts of the church newsletter, writing my blog, and writing the Intern announcements. I was also able to attend the church staff meeting. I liked being involved in this part of church life. It was nice to get to know some of the other staffers better. In the afternoon I took my first trip to Fox Valley Homes Assisted Living. I officially learned how to play Mexican Train and even won a few rounds. I loved spending time at FVL Homes, I found it very relaxing. Lastly, that night we held the first of the Middle School Youth Group events. We had one student show up and we played board games and ate pizza. It was a good time.

Wednesday was also busy. I spent the day in the intern office working on some small tasks and writing the message I will give on Wednesday. I am feeling pretty good about it so far. That evening we held worship and ended the night at the FELC Pool Party at Mead Pool. It was a good end to a busy day.

Thursday morning, we started the day at Eagle Point Assisted Living. I and a few other interns spent the morning outside playing shuffleboard. I soon found out that I am not the best at this game, but it was still nice to get outside with some residents. In the afternoon on Thursday, I worked at Echoes tagging clothes and stocking racks. I liked working in the store as it was different than what we normally do. I ended the day at Copper Rock Café with my mentor for the summer. I loved talking with my mentor about what the job has been like so far.

I ended the week with a trip to Noah’s Ark with 4 other interns and Heidi. We left the Downtown Site at 8:30 in the morning and we returned around 9 that night. It was a day filled with sunshine, waterslides, and wave pools. My group was very fun as we spent the whole day on different rides throughout the park. I was happy to go to bed that night as it was a long day.

Wish me luck and keep me in your prayers with my message coming up next week!!

I love that you are embracing all facets of the program and I love seeing the relationships you are making. Thank you for sharing a week in the life of an intern as it exposes the variety that this program provides! Looking forward to your message, Liv!!!
